A shocking double murder in Bihar’s Araria district on Thursday has left the region tense and raised serious concerns about law and order. The violence began with a minor dispute and quickly escalated into two brutal killings within hours.
According to police, the first victim, Ali Hussain, a pickup driver from Jogbani, was attacked by a roadside vendor following an argument over parking in Forbesganj town. The accused, identified as Ravi Chauhan, allegedly lost his temper during the dispute.
Eyewitnesses said the argument turned violent within minutes. Chauhan reportedly stabbed Hussain and then beheaded him in a gruesome manner. “He was standing there with the severed head in his hand. People were terrified but many just kept watching and recording videos,” an eyewitness said.
Police officials confirmed that the accused fled briefly after committing the crime but left the body at the scene, which caused panic across the crowded marketplace.
Mob Justice: Accused Beaten to Death
Soon after the murder, anger spread among locals and family members of the victim. A group of villagers tracked down Chauhan, who was reportedly hiding near his home.
“They dragged him back to the same spot and started beating him with sticks and rods,” a police official said. “Despite our presence, the mob turned uncontrollable.”
Chauhan was beaten to death in front of police personnel, marking a second killing in the same incident. The back-to-back murders led to chaos in the area, with crowds gathering rapidly and tensions spiraling out of control.
Violence Spreads, Public Property Damaged
Following the killings, the situation worsened as angry mobs clashed with police and vandalised public property. An ambulance that arrived to take the bodies was damaged, and unrest spread further.
Some members of the mob also reached the Forbesganj Sub-Divisional Hospital and vandalised parts of the facility. “Doctors and staff had to run for safety as the mob entered the hospital परिसर,” a local source said.
The violence created fear across the town, with shops shutting down and people staying indoors.
Police Response and Investigation Underway
Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar reached the spot with additional forces to bring the situation under control. Heavy police deployment has since been made in sensitive areas of Forbesganj to prevent further escalation.
“We are investigating both incidents. Strict action will be taken against those involved in the killings and vandalism,” the SP said.
Authorities said the situation remains tense but is gradually being brought under control through continuous patrolling and monitoring.
