A shocking incident of public humiliation has emerged from Kalahandi in Odisha, where a Dalit man was allegedly targeted by self-proclaimed cow vigilantes in Bhawanipatna town.

A video that surfaced on April 9 shows the unidentified man being paraded with a garland made of shoes and forced to sit on the ground with a pile of meat placed in front of him, reportedly over allegations that he had prepared beef.

Victim Paraded, Assaulted in Public

The footage circulating on social media captures disturbing scenes of the man being mocked and humiliated by a group of people. At one point, a person places a steel bowl on his head, while others laugh and record videos.

In another clip, a man is seen sprinkling white powder on the victim’s face before another individual pours a bucket of cow dung slurry over him. The act appears to have been carried out in full public view, drawing no immediate resistance from those present.

Police Presence Raises Questions

The video also shows a police officer standing nearby during the incident. However, there was no visible attempt to intervene or stop the assault, raising serious concerns about inaction by law enforcement.

The Odisha Police has not issued an official statement so far regarding the incident.

Political Reactions and Allegations

Reacting to the video, Congress leader Amiya Pandav accused members of the Bajrang Dal of being involved in the attack.

He shared the video online and condemned the incident, calling attention to the targeting of a Dalit individual and raising questions about the role of vigilante groups.
