Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed his newfound love for Meghalaya’s pineapples during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in the state. Gandhi, captivated by the taste, exclaimed, “In my entire life, I have never had such delicious pineapples.”
He said, “Today, when we were driving here, we stopped and tasted some pineapples. There was a daughter and a mother selling pineapples on the side of the road. Immediately after I had it, I called up my mother and said I am bringing some of the best pineapples in the world for you.”
Curious about why these exceptional pineapples aren’t accessible globally, Gandhi pondered, “Why isn’t the best-tasting pineapple in the world available to the entire world, and why are the farmers in the states not benefiting from selling it to the rest of the world?” He attributed this limitation to the lack of infrastructure.
Gandhi said that infrastructure must be developed to enable farmers and local businesses to reach global markets. He said the idea of building a new vision for India that empowers farmers and local enterprises, enabling them to share their products with the world.
