West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reacted strongly after early trends showed the BJP taking a clear lead in the 2026 Assembly election results. Calling the outcome “shocking,” she accused the Election Commission of bias and alleged large-scale irregularities.
Speaking to reporters surrounded by security personnel, Banerjee said her party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), would make a comeback.
“More than 100 seats BJP looted. The Election Commission is the BJP’s commission,” she said, claiming she had raised complaints but no action was taken.
She added, “Do you think this is a victory? It is an immoral victory, not a moral victory. It is loot, loot, loot. We will bounce back.”
Her comments came as the BJP surged ahead in Bengal, marking one of its strongest performances in the state in recent years.
BJP Claims Historic Win, Says ‘Lotus Blooms from Gangotri to Ganga Sagar’
At the BJP headquarters in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the results a “historic day” for the party and the country.
He said the victory reflected people’s trust in the BJP’s governance model and democratic process.
“Today, the lotus has blossomed everywhere—from Gangotri to Gangasagar,” PM Modi said, referring to BJP gains across regions.
He also recalled earlier predictions of a BJP surge in Bengal, linking it to past electoral trends in Bihar.
Modi Celebrates Assam Hat-Trick Victory
The Prime Minister also highlighted the BJP’s strong performance in Assam, where the party is heading towards a third consecutive term.
“Along with the Ganga, the Brahmaputra too has blessed us; the people of Assam have given us their trust for the third time,” Modi said.
He described the results as a sign of continued public support for the NDA government’s development agenda.
Bengal Election Turns Into Political Flashpoint
The Bengal results have triggered a sharp political exchange between the BJP and the TMC. While the BJP called the outcome a “mandate for development,” Mamata Banerjee alleged misuse of central agencies and questioned the Election Commission’s neutrality.
The election, which was closely watched across the country, has now turned into a major political confrontation over electoral integrity and governance claims.
High-Stakes Verdict in Key States
Along with West Bengal, results from Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry have shaped a broader national political picture, with the BJP and regional parties both making significant gains.
The final results are expected to define the political direction in several states ahead of the next national electoral cycle.
