Gujarat Blast accused released; returns home after 16 years

Raziuddin Nasir was released from Gujarat Sabarmati jail on Thursday, after 16 years in Jail, following the Supreme Court’s order granting him bail in the conspiracy case of Gujarat Blast.

Hailing from Saidabad, the youngest son of renowned cleric Moulana Naseeruddin, former President Wahdat-E-Islami, who passed away in 2020, returned to Hyderabad city and joined his family members at his Saidabad residence.

Nasir was among the 28 accused in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial bomb blasts case, who were acquitted in February 2022.

Although he was acquitted two years ago, he remained in jail for another criminal case pertaining to an alleged jailbreak incident. He was purportedly involved in a jailbreak attempt, and the trial for this matter was still pending.

The detection crime branch of Ahmedabad police had arrested Nasir in 2008, claiming he was one of the members of Indian Mujahideen (IM), a faction of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). Hence, was accused of being involved in the serial blasts too.

On July 26, 2008, a series of 19 bomb blasts rocked the city of Ahmedabad and reportedly claimed 56 lives.
