The Rajasthan chapter of the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) organised a one-day training workshop for Para-Legal Volunteers (PLVs) in Udaipur on Sunday, June 14, with a focus on legal awareness, civil rights and social justice.
Held at The Lake Haveli in Udaipur, the workshop revolved around the theme, “Learn the Law, Serve the Community, Protect Rights, and Promote Justice.” The programme aimed to equip volunteers with practical legal knowledge and strengthen community-based support systems for vulnerable groups.
Social workers, advocates, journalists and volunteers from 20 districts across Rajasthan participated in the event.
Focus on Legal Awareness and Community Service
The workshop began with a welcome address by Advocate Mohammad Iqbal, Treasurer of APCR, followed by an introduction of participants.
Mujammil Rizvi, State General Secretary of APCR Rajasthan, highlighted the organisation’s vision, mission and ongoing work. Meanwhile, Rukhsana Usman explained the objectives of the workshop and discussed the expected responsibilities of volunteers in addressing legal and social concerns at the grassroots level.
Sessions on Constitution, RTI and Legal Rights
Social activist and RTI campaigner Kamal Kumar Tak delivered a session on the Constitution of India and the Right to Information (RTI), explaining how citizens can use legal provisions to access information and strengthen accountability.
Advocate Fawwaz Shaheen conducted a detailed session on India’s judicial and legal system, guiding participants on how citizens can approach legal institutions and authorities when dealing with social and legal challenges.
Dr. M. Iqbal Siddiqui spoke about the role and responsibilities of APCR volunteers and emphasised the importance of legal awareness in protecting constitutional rights.
Practical Training Through Role Play
To make the programme more interactive, participants were divided into groups for practical exercises and role-play sessions. These activities focused on responding to situations such as arrests, illegal evictions, communal violence and domestic violence.
Participants received guidance on immediate response measures, legal provisions and institutional support systems that can be accessed in such situations.

Prakriti, Research and Documentation Coordinator at APCR Central, conducted practical training on case documentation, fact-finding methods and report writing through hypothetical case studies.
Speaking during the workshop, Mrs. Meenakshi Sethi Zaidi stressed the need to develop strong local volunteer networks and highlighted their role in community-level support and awareness.
Call to Strengthen Human Rights and Justice
In the concluding session, Advocate Syed Saadat Ali, State President of APCR Rajasthan, said trained volunteers play an important role in promoting justice, protecting human rights and increasing legal awareness in society.
He urged participants to stay active in their local areas and support underprivileged and vulnerable sections of society.

At the end of the event, Advocate Qamar Hussain, President of APCR Udaipur, thanked guests, speakers, participants and organisers for contributing to the successful conduct of the workshop.
