Muslim organisations in Himachal Pradesh have staged protests and submitted a memorandum to police authorities over a social media post they claim contained objectionable remarks about the Holy Qur’an.
According to local reports, the post appeared on a social media platform and included comments that community members described as insulting and offensive. The content reportedly spread quickly online, leading to anger and concern among sections of the Muslim community in the state.
Memorandum Submitted to Police in Sirmaur
A delegation of community members met Sirmaur Superintendent of Police Nishchint Singh Negi and submitted a formal complaint demanding strict legal action against the person responsible.
Anjuman Islamia president Bobby Ahmed said that the controversy began when a religious post was shared online and another user responded with abusive comments. He said, “We posted a message from the Qur’an on social media, and one person wrote abusive remarks in the comments.”
He added that if immediate action is not taken, the community may launch a larger protest movement.
‘Disrespect to Religious Text Not Acceptable,’ Say Community Leaders
Muslim leaders participating in the protest said that insulting any religious scripture is unacceptable and can hurt religious sentiments deeply.
One community representative said, “Disrespect to any sacred religious text is unacceptable. We expect authorities to act as per law and prevent communal tension.”
Another leader said that while the community respects freedom of expression, it should not be used to insult religious beliefs. “Freedom of expression should not be misused to target faiths or create division in society,” he said.
They added that the Qur’an holds deep spiritual significance for Muslims and any offensive remarks against it can create widespread hurt and tension.
Demand for Legal Action and Warning of Agitation
The organisations demanded identification of the individual behind the post and immediate arrest, saying that failure to act could lead to a wider agitation across the state.

A community member warned, “If the person responsible is not arrested immediately, the Muslim community will be forced to launch a major agitation.”
However, leaders also urged people to remain peaceful and act within the framework of law while pursuing their demands.
Police Begin Inquiry Into Social Media Post
Police officials confirmed that they have taken note of the complaint and an inquiry is underway into the alleged social media post.
Authorities said the content is being examined and appropriate legal action will be taken once verification is complete. They also appealed to the public to avoid spreading unverified information online and maintain peace during the investigation.
