A stolen handbag belonging to a Palestinian woman in Doha was unexpectedly returned by the thief along with a handwritten apology after he reportedly discovered her nationality and medical condition.
According to Al Jazeera, the woman was surprised to find her bag placed outside her home the next morning, with all its contents intact.
The bag reportedly contained $275 in cash, personal documents, and medical papers. After going through the documents, the thief learned that the owner was Palestinian and decided to return it.
In the apology note, the thief wrote: “Forgive me, I didn’t know you were Palestinian, and if I had known, I would never have stolen from you.”
Another version of the note reportedly said: “Forgive us. Had we known you were Palestinian, we would never have stolen from you. We’re sorry.”
The unusual incident quickly drew attention on social media, where many users reacted with surprise and humour. Some even described the unknown person as a “thief with principles” for returning the belongings after realising the woman’s identity.
