US President Donald Trump has once again claimed that he played a key role in ending the military conflict between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, while also alleging that 11 fighter jets were shot down during the four-day hostilities.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Wednesday, Trump said he had helped settle several international conflicts and deserved the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts.
“I settled about eight wars. The India-Pakistan conflict was going to be nuclear. I should have gotten the Nobel Peace Prize more than anybody,” Trump said.
Trump Claims 11 Aircraft Were Shot Down
During his remarks, Trump claimed that “11 planes were shot down” during the India-Pakistan conflict but did not specify whether the aircraft belonged to India, Pakistan, or both countries. He also did not provide any evidence to support the claim.
Trump further said that Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had thanked him for preventing a wider conflict.
“He said, ‘You saved about 30 to 50 million lives.’ Guess what, it could have been a lot more than that,” Trump said.
India Rejects Mediation Claim
India has consistently denied Trump’s repeated assertions that the United States mediated an end to the conflict.
New Delhi has maintained that the understanding to halt military action was reached through direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan, without any third-party involvement.
Indian officials have repeatedly stated that no foreign country mediated the ceasefire understanding.
Operation Sindoor
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting what it described as terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied territories following the Pahalgam terror attack.
The strikes led to four days of military exchanges between the two countries before both sides agreed to stop military operations on May 10.
India has also stated that its strikes destroyed or damaged at least a dozen Pakistani military aircraft, including F-16 fighter jets, during the operation. Pakistan has denied several of India’s claims regarding its military losses.
