Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district have arrested a man after a Hindu minor girl alleged that she was lured away from her village, taken to a mosque for a nikah ceremony and later taken to Delhi. Police said they are investigating allegations of religious conversion and other offences as part of the case.
According to police, the case was registered after the girl’s family lodged a complaint at Nagra Police Station. The accused, identified as Shabbir, has been arrested.
Girl Alleges Forced Nikah and Conversion
In her complaint to the police, the minor alleged that the accused took her to a mosque in Dihwa, where a nikah ceremony was performed. She further claimed that he later took her to Delhi and brought her back on Thursday evening.
After returning home, the girl informed her family about the incident, following which a police complaint was filed.
Based on her statement, police registered an FIR under the relevant legal provisions and began an investigation.

Police Investigating All Allegations
Police recorded the girl’s statement and sent her for a medical examination as part of the investigation.
Station House Officer Sanjay Kumar Mishra said the accused has been arrested and that the investigation is ongoing.
“The accused has been arrested. Allegations relating to religious conversion and other claims made in the complaint are being investigated. Appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings,” the officer said.
The incident has triggered tension in the area, while police said they are examining all aspects of the case before taking further action.
