A Special Lok Adalat on Friday heard the long-standing dispute over the Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi and Shahi Idgah Mosque in Mathura, following the Supreme Court’s directions. Hindu and Muslim parties presented their respective positions during the hearing.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for August 18. In previous proceedings, the Muslim side had reportedly remained absent despite notices being issued to them.

Hindu Group Offers Land for New Mosque

Amid the proceedings, Dinesh Sharma, president of the Sanatan Hindu Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi Sangharsh Nyas, offered to provide 10 acres of land in the Mewat area for construction of a new mosque if the existing Shahi Idgah Mosque is voluntarily demolished.

Sharma also offered to bear the construction costs of the proposed mosque.

“If the other party voluntarily demolishes the mosque, then we will give them 10 acres of land in Mewat to build a new mosque for them and pay the construction cost separately,” he said.

He added that a grand temple dedicated to Lord Krishna should be constructed in Mathura, similar to the Ram temple built in Ayodhya.

Multiple Petitions Pending Before Courts

The Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah dispute is currently the subject of 18 petitions filed by various social organisations, seers, the Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi Seva Sansthan and the Shahi Idgah Mosque Management.

The petitions are pending before the Allahabad High Court and the Supreme Court. The dispute centres on competing claims over the site in Mathura, with Hindu petitioners seeking the removal of the Shahi Idgah Mosque and asserting that the site is the birthplace of Lord Krishna, while the Muslim side has opposed the claims.
