Delhi: Structures, Barricades Outside Pakistan High Commission Demolished Over Boundary Violation

A section of structures and barricades outside the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi was demolished on Thursday after authorities found that the installations extended beyond the diplomatic mission’s approved boundary, officials said.

The action was carried out by the concerned authorities using a JCB machine. Structures erected along the lane outside the compound were removed, including barricades and queue-management facilities near the visa section.

Traffic bollards and other installations that had formed an external security perimeter around the mission were also dismantled.

Demolition Leaves Debris Outside Visa Section

Visuals from the site showed broken metal railings, gates, roofing sheets, twisted metal frames, bricks and pieces of concrete and plaster scattered across the road outside the High Commission.

Parts of the outer structures, including corrugated roofing and white metal fencing, were pulled down. Some portions around the service windows also appeared damaged during the demolition.

The visa section remained visible, with windows marked “Window 1”, “Pakistani Passport Only” and “Window-5 / Collection of Visa Applications”.

The main entrance of the Pakistan High Commission remained intact, while barbed-wire fencing could still be seen along parts of the compound.

Action Comes Days After Move in Islamabad

The demolition came three days after Pakistani authorities reportedly removed security barricades and parking poles outside the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.

The developments have drawn attention amid already strained relations between India and Pakistan. However, officials have said the structures removed in New Delhi were beyond the approved boundary of the Pakistani mission.

There is no official indication that Thursday’s demolition was directly linked to the action taken outside the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.

India-Pakistan Tensions Remain High

The latest development comes amid continuing diplomatic tensions between the two countries.

On Wednesday, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor described Jammu and Kashmir as “an important part of India” during his visit to Srinagar. Pakistan subsequently summoned the US chargé d’affaires in Islamabad to register its protest over the remarks.

There is, however, no official indication that the demolition outside the Pakistan High Commission was connected to the US envoy’s comments on Kashmir.

Relations between New Delhi and Islamabad have remained strained since the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people, followed by India’s military response in May and a series of diplomatic and administrative measures by both countries.
