BJP’s Ravinder Negi Targets Shah Rukh Khan Over Deepika’s Saffron Outfit in “Tu Mil Jaaye”; Recalls “Pathaan” Row

BJP MLA Ravinder Singh Negi has objected to the saffron dress worn by actor Deepika Padukone in “Tu Mil Jaaye”, a song from Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film “King”, demanded changes to the sequence and warned of nationwide protests if it is not altered.

Negi, also known as Ravi Negi, made the remarks to Dainik Samachar. He alleged that the song sequence disrespects Sanatan Dharma and demanded that the portion in which Deepika appears in saffron be removed. He also targeted Shah Rukh Khan and, according to Siasat, made a communal remark against the actor. The report does not say what exactly he said. Negi also referred to the earlier row over the film “Pathaan”, saying that Hindu organisations had protested then and would oppose the new sequence too.

According to the Free Press Journal, neither Shah Rukh nor Deepika had responded to his remarks when it published its report. The makers of “King” have also not commented on the demand in the reports I found.

The latest controversy recalls the uproar before “Pathaan” was released in 2023. Deepika’s saffron bikini in the song “Besharam Rang” drew objections from political leaders and religious organisations, including Madhya Pradesh’s then home minister Narottam Mishra, who demanded that the costumes be changed. The film went on to become a blockbuster.

Social media users had already begun comparing the new song with “Besharam Rang” before Negi spoke, and some wondered whether Deepika’s colour choice was a playful answer to the earlier backlash. That is fan speculation, and the makers have said nothing to support it.

“King” is directed by Siddharth Anand, who also made “Pathaan”, and stars Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, with Suhana Khan and Abhishek Bachchan in the cast. It is due in cinemas on December 24, 2026
