A 25-year-old shopkeeper, Nadeem Ansari, was allegedly burnt alive after a group of youths set him on fire and locked him inside his shop following a dispute over payment in Siwan, Bihar, on Wednesday night.
The incident took place at his general store in Alawal Tola, opposite the GB Nagar police station in the Tarwara area. According to local residents, three youths had come to the shop to buy goods. An argument reportedly broke out when Ansari asked them to pay.
One of the youths allegedly returned with petrol, poured it on Ansari and set him on fire with the help of the others. The attackers then pulled down the shop shutter, locked it from outside and fled, leaving him trapped inside.
Residents alerted the police after noticing flames. Police personnel brought the fire under control, broke open the shop and recovered Ansari’s body. The shop was located barely 100 metres from the police station.

Sister Says Nadeem Identified Three Attackers
Ansari’s sister, Afsana Khatoon, said the family received information about the incident around 8 pm.
She said that while Ansari was being taken to hospital, she asked him who had attacked him. He reportedly managed to say “three” before his condition worsened.
“He was in severe pain and kept asking for medicine, saying he was experiencing a burning sensation,” she said.
Khatoon also alleged that the attackers threw acid on her brother’s face before setting him on fire. This detail has not been independently established.
The family has demanded the arrest of those responsible and called for senior police officials to visit the spot.
Family, Villagers Block Siwan-Patna Road
The incident triggered protests on Thursday after Ansari’s post-mortem. Relatives and local residents placed his body on the Siwan-Patna road near Tarwara bridge and blocked traffic, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused.
The protest, which also involved the burning of tyres, continued for nearly two hours. Sadar Sub-Divisional Officer Ashutosh Gupta and Sadar-1 Sub-Divisional Police Officer Pranjal reached the spot and spoke to the protesters.
