Mohammad Farid, known as Aurangzeb, lost his life when he was attacked by a group of men in the Mamu Bhanja area of Gandhi Park, Aligarh. The incident occurred around 1 am, sparked by mistaken suspicions of theft.

Aurangzeb had visited his friend Rohit and, after a brief interaction, was leaving when onlookers mistook him for a thief. This led to an outcry, drawing a crowd that proceeded to beat him severely with sticks. The assault caused Aurangzeb to fall from stairs, after which he was mercilessly attacked on the ground.

Police intervened and transported Aurangzeb to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. News of the incident spread quickly, leading to hundreds gathering in protest, demanding justice for Aurangzeb. Political leaders from various parties, including Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party, along with the victim’s family members, staged a sit-in to demand the immediate arrest of the remaining suspects.

According to the police account, Aurangzeb was mistakenly perceived as he left the residence of Mukesh Chand Mittal, a local textile trader. The situation escalated when Rohit, Mittal’s son, confronted Aurangzeb, leading to the series of events.

Authorities have deployed personnel from multiple police stations in the area and are reviewing video footage to identify additional perpetrators. The incident has prompted local businesses to close temporarily in protest.

Superintendent of Police Mrigank Shekhar Pathak said that a case under IPC section 302 (murder) has been registered, with four arrests made, and pledged that all involved would face justice.

“An FIR under IPC section 302 (murder) was registered at the Gandhi Park police station late on Tuesday night in this connection. We have arrested four persons named in the FIR so far and are trying to identify others involved in the incident through available video footage. No one will be spared,” said Mrigank Shekhar Pathak.
