In the second phase of the Jammu Kashmir Assembly Elections 2024, voter turnout in Srinagar remained low compared to other districts. By 5 PM, only 27.31% of eligible voters in Srinagar had cast their votes, which is lower than turnout in other regions.
While districts like Reasi (71.81%), Poonch (71.59%), and Rajouri (67.77%) saw high participation, Srinagar’s turnout highlighted a clear gap in voter engagement. Even Budgam (58.97%) and Ganderbal (58.81%), both central districts, saw much higher turnouts compared to Srinagar.
These numbers show that while rural and hilly areas experienced strong voter participation, the urban centre of Srinagar showed much less enthusiasm in the elections.
J&K Chief Electoral Officer PK Pole said, “There has not been any incident that I may think that a repoll is required. There were 3502 polling stations and there is no such polling booth where voting percentage was in single digits… In Srinagar, the polling percentage crossed that during the Lok Sabha election polls. Srinagar’s polling percentage during the Lok Sabha elections was 24.83%, we have crossed it by 5% this time…”
