Brave Father Yakub Mansouri Rescues Newborns in Jhansi NICU Fire, Loses Twin Daughters in Tragedy

Yakub Mansouri, a father in his 20s, saved many newborns on Friday night when the fire broke out in the neonatal intensive care unit at the Laxmi Bai Medical College in Jhansi. The tragic night took the lives of 10 newborns, Yakub’s twin daughters were among the dead.

Yakub, a food vendor from Hamirpur showed his bravery when the fire erupted. Yakoob broke through the window and tried to rescue as many infants as he could. Heartbreakingly, he couldn’t save his twins as the fire was uncontrollable. 

For a week, Yakub and his wife, Nazma took shifts and stayed outside the neonatal intensive care unit as their twins were admitted there. After learning that their twins didn’t survive, the couple stayed outside the hospital in complete shock and grief. 

Horrifying videos of parents screaming and crying for help surfaced on the internet. A mother who also lost her first child in this tragedy Sanjana Kumari, alleged negligence on the part of hospital management and said, “My child was charred to death right in front of my eyes as I watched helplessly. My dreams were destroyed by the hospital’s negligence. I didn’t get a chance to hold my child.” 

According to the reports, the fire was caused by a short circuit around 11 at night. Rescue teams were able to save and evacuate 54 infants. One infant unfortunately passed away. The other rescued newborns did not have any injuries and were shifted to other wards and nursing homes.
