Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan on Wednesday denied claims that he was on the run, alleging that the Delhi Police was framing him in a false case.
In a letter sent to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, Khan, the Okhla MLA, stated that he was in his constituency and not attempting to evade arrest.
“Some people in the Delhi Police are implicating me in a false case. The person whom the Delhi Police had come to arrest is out on bail. The police are implicating me in a false case to hide its mistake,” Khan wrote in the letter dated February 12.
The Delhi Police had filed an FIR against Khan, accusing him of leading a mob that attacked a police team in Jamia Nagar on Monday. The police claimed that Khan’s supporters helped Shabaz Khan, an accused in an attempt-to-murder case, escape police custody during the incident.
However, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Ravi Kumar Singh denied having received any letter from Khan.
“I have not received any such letter. The investigation is underway, and we are trying to track him. We have not been able to establish any communication with him so far,” Singh said.
Amanatullah Khan, who was recently re-elected to the Delhi Assembly, had defeated BJP’s Manish Chaudhary by a margin of 23,639 votes.
