Following the escalation of hostilities during Operation Sindoor, India has issued a stern warning to Pakistan: any future terrorist attack on Indian soil will be treated as an Act of War, top government sources was quoted as saying by News18.
The statement, though not an official escalation, marks a shift in India’s strategic posture. It draws a red line in response to Pakistan’s sustained aggression in recent days, including drone and missile attacks targeting Indian military installations and civilian areas.
“This is not about provocation, but about deterrence,” a senior official said on condition of anonymity. “Any future terror strike in India — regardless of location — will trigger a military response.”
The warning emerged from a high-level security meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. Present at the meeting were Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, the chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force, and other top intelligence and security officials.
Officials discussed Pakistan’s cross-border strikes and the possibility of further escalation, concluding that a zero-tolerance threshold must be clearly communicated. The definition of an “Act of War” shared by officials includes any armed assault or use of force that threatens India’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, or the safety of its citizens.
The message comes amid rising tensions along the Line of Control and the international border. India has so far responded proportionately to cross-border hostilities, but the government has now made it clear that any future terror strike will invoke full-spectrum retaliation.
