APCR Objects to “Corporate Jihad” Event at Bengaluru College, Seeks Cancellation Over Communal Concerns

The Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) Karnataka has written to the Principal of National College, Basavanagudi, expressing strong objection to an upcoming programme titled “Understanding Corporate Jihad: Myths & Facts,” scheduled to be organised on May 16, 2026.

The event is reportedly being organised by the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti. APCR has urged the college administration to withdraw permission for the programme, claiming that its title and content could promote communal disharmony.

APCR Alleges “Inflammatory Terminology” and Legal Concerns

In its letter, APCR stated that the use of the term “Corporate Jihad” is “inflammatory” and appears to target a specific religious community.

The organisation warned that such content may violate provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections related to promoting enmity between communities and public mischief.

“Such discourse likely falls under provisions that deal with statements promoting enmity and public disorder,” the letter said, urging the institution to take immediate corrective action.

“Threat to Communal Harmony,” Says Rights Body

APCR also expressed concern that allowing such a programme inside an academic institution could affect campus harmony and the well-being of students and staff.

“National College has a reputation for inclusivity. Allowing such divisive narratives can harm the environment of peace and mutual respect,” the organisation stated.

It further argued that educational institutions are expected to uphold constitutional values and promote scientific thinking under Article 51A of the Constitution.

Warning Over Possible Law and Order Issues

The rights body also flagged the possibility of public unrest if the programme goes ahead, stating that communally sensitive discussions could escalate tensions in the Basavanagudi area and across Bengaluru.

“Events of this nature may lead to law and order issues, for which the institution could be held accountable,” APCR cautioned in its representation.

Demand to Cancel Event or Ensure Strict Monitoring

APCR has urged the college to revoke permission for the lecture, calling it necessary to protect “constitutional values and social harmony.”

However, it also stated that if the event is not cancelled, the administration should ensure strict oversight, including monitoring of speeches to prevent any content that violates the law.

The organisation added that it reserves the right to pursue legal action if required to safeguard civil rights.

Call for Campus to Remain “Space for Unity”

Concluding its letter, APCR appealed to the college administration to ensure that the institution continues to function as a space for education, unity, and dialogue rather than division.

“We look forward to your proactive cooperation in ensuring that the college remains a space for unity rather than division,” the letter stated.
