APCR Praises Delhi Police for Ensuring Peace During Eid, Ram Navami, Hanuman Jayanti

APCR praises Delhi Police for maintaining peace in Uttam Nagar during Eid, Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti through proactive security measures.

The Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) has commended the Delhi Police and district administration for maintaining peace and security in Uttam Nagar during recent religious festivals, including Eid-ul-Fitr, Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti.

The appreciation follows directions issued by the Delhi High Court on March 19, 2026, in a petition filed by APCR. The court had instructed authorities to ensure law and order and create a peaceful environment for festival celebrations in the area.

Police measures helped prevent unrest

APCR noted that the police effectively implemented the court’s directions by engaging with local stakeholders, forming peace committees, conducting regular flag marches, and deploying adequate security personnel.

“These steps played a key role in preventing anti-social elements from disturbing communal harmony,” the organisation said.

Tension on Eid managed through swift action

According to APCR, a potentially tense situation arose on March 21, the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, when large groups gathered near JJ Colony and Uttam Nagar East metro station, allegedly attempting to create unrest.

However, the Delhi Police acted promptly, detaining several individuals accused of trying to incite violence. “The constant vigilance of the police ensured that the situation did not take an ugly turn,” APCR said.

The group also claimed that many individuals in the crowd were from outside Uttam Nagar and had responded to calls to disrupt Eid celebrations. It added that local residents from all communities cooperated with authorities to maintain peace.

Peaceful celebrations during Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti

Security arrangements remained in place during Ram Navami on March 26 and Hanuman Jayanti on April 2. APCR said religious processions during both festivals were carried out peacefully, with coordination between communities and authorities.

Model for handling sensitive situations

APCR said the combined efforts of the Delhi Police and the administration have helped restore trust among residents.

“The manner in which the security measures were implemented can serve as a model for handling communally sensitive situations across the country,” the organisation said.

It also urged authorities to continue their efforts by conducting a thorough investigation into individuals who allegedly tried to create communal tension in the lead-up to Eid.
