In the aftermath of the deadly attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of at least 26 people, security forces have detained around 1,500 individuals for questioning.

The attack took place on Tuesday in the Baisaran meadows of Pahalgam, a popular tourist spot in the Anantnag district of south Kashmir. The victims, primarily tourists from various Indian states, were all male.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security, which was attended by senior ministers, including Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who had to cut short her visit to the US.

Home Minister Amit Shah visited the site of the attack, where he was briefed by army and police officials about the suspected routes used by the attackers. He also visited the injured at a hospital in Anantnag and participated in a wreath-laying ceremony for the victims in Srinagar. In a post on X, Shah stated, “Bharat will not bend to terror. The culprits of this dastardly terror attack will not be spared.” He further assured that security forces would leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh declared that those behind the “cowardly terrorist attack” would soon face a “strong response.” He added that India would not only target the perpetrators but also those who conspired behind the scenes to carry out the deadly attack.

Prime Minister Modi echoed similar sentiments, saying that those responsible for the “heinous act” would be brought to justice.
