Hours after the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) announced the results for the Jammu and Kashmir Police Constable Telecommunication and Photography exams, several aspirants raised concerns about the transparency and fairness of the selection process.

A delegation of candidates told the news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) that the top scorers in the Telecommunication and Photography exams had previously scored alarmingly low, with some even receiving negative marks in the simpler JKP (Executive/Armed/SDRF) paper. They described the earlier exam as being easier, raising doubts about the fairness of the current results.

One aspirant questioned, “How is it possible for someone who scored zero or negative marks in a simpler paper to suddenly excel in a highly technical and difficult exam? This defies logic and fairness.” Another added, “It feels like a mockery of our efforts. The integrity of the process is clearly in question, and we deserve answers.”

The aspirants have accused JKSSB of compromising their futures and have appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene. They have requested the cancellation of the results and called for a fresh, fair examination.

PDP leader Iltija Mufti also supported the claims, tweeting, “JKSSB continues jeopardizing the future of J&K’s youth. Massive discrepancies in the JKP Telecommunications exam where ‘toppers’ fared poorly in the previously held constable exams. The government that rose to power by making lofty promises has conveniently washed its hands of any accountability.”

The candidates said the emotional and mental toll the controversy has taken. One aspirant lamented, “We are disheartened and feel betrayed. If merit is overlooked, trust in the system will collapse.”

The aggrieved candidates are demanding an immediate investigation into the alleged discrepancies and a transparent recruitment process to restore public confidence.

This recruitment drive, the first major one since 2019, saw exams held on December 1, 8, and 22, 2024, for 4,002 vacancies. The selection process includes a written exam followed by physical and medical tests.
