All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal has launched a sharp attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging that his political statements and policies have created an atmosphere of fear among Muslims in the state.

Speaking to reporters after winning the Binnakandi Assembly seat in the recent state elections, Ajmal accused the Chief Minister of repeatedly making divisive remarks.

He said, “Himanta Biswa Sarma is number one when it comes to making hate comments. Because of his politics and statements, Muslims in Assam are living in fear.”

Claim of Fear and Communal Polarisation

Ajmal alleged that the Muslim community in Assam is feeling insecure due to the current political climate. However, he also stressed that the community continues to support peace and development in the state.

According to him, Muslims remain committed to maintaining social harmony despite political tensions.

Ajmal Foundation and Education Work

Defending his organisation’s work, Ajmal said his charitable trust focuses on education for all communities.

He stated, “In Ajmal Foundation institutions, not only Muslim students but Hindu boys and girls also study. We have always worked for education and social development without discrimination.”

Appeal for Assamese Language in Census

Referring to the upcoming Census exercise, Ajmal urged Muslims in Assam to declare Assamese as their mother tongue.

He said this would reflect the community’s cultural integration with Assamese society.

“This time, during the Census, Muslims should write Assamese as their language. It will reflect our integration with Assamese culture and society,” he said.

Comment on Assam Congress Leadership

The AIUDF chief also commented on internal politics within the Assam Congress, suggesting that Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain should replace Gaurav Gogoi as the state party president.

He argued that Hussain’s experience and grassroots connect could strengthen the Congress ahead of future elections.
