Bajrang Dal Threatens to Disrupt Kunal Kamra’s Hyderabad Show Over Ram, Sita Remarks

Bajrang Dal has threatened to disrupt stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra’s scheduled show in Hyderabad on Sunday, alleging that his remarks about Hindu deities Ram and Sita are offensive.

The threat has raised tensions ahead of the performance scheduled to take place at TGRTC Kala Bhavan on RTC X Roads in Hyderabad.

The organisation has lodged a complaint with the Hyderabad Police, asking them not to allow the event. It has also warned that its members, along with workers of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), would intervene if the show goes ahead.

“We will stop the anti-Hindu Kunal Kamra show scheduled for today at TGRTC Kala Bhavan, RTC X Roads, Hyderabad. Kunal Kamra always criticises the Hindu gods Ram and Sita,” the Hyderabad unit of Bajrang Dal said.

It further claimed that cases had previously been filed against the comedian in several places and said it had asked the police not to grant permission for the event.

“If the event continues today, we, along with a large number of Bajrang Dal and VHP workers, will definitely stop it,” the organisation warned.

The police’s response to the complaint and the status of permission for the show were not provided in the available information.

Kunal Kamra Faced Controversy Over Eknath Shinde Remarks

This is not the first time Kamra has faced threats and demands for action over his comedy.

In March 2025, the comedian triggered a political controversy during his stand-up special Naya Bharat, in which he referred to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as a “traitor” or “gaddar”.

The remarks drew a strong response from members and supporters of Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction. Party workers vandalised the venue where the performance was held and nearby hotel premises. Police subsequently detained several party workers.

Following complaints from Shiv Sena members, Mumbai Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Kamra.

Courts Granted Kamra Protection From Arrest

Kamra approached the Madras High Court, which granted him interim anticipatory bail, taking into account his residence in Tamil Nadu. He also challenged the FIR before the Bombay High Court, which granted him protection from arrest.

The latest threat in Hyderabad comes amid renewed objections to the comedian’s performances over his remarks about religious and political figures.
