In Bihar’s Madhubani district, accused Maganoo Singh has been granted bail in connection with the death of Roshan Khatoon, who died after an alleged assault in Amhi village under Ghoghardiha block. The incident reportedly took place on February 25 during a local dispute, and she died on March 1 at Patna Medical College and Hospital due to her injuries.
Her family has alleged that she was also subjected to religious humiliation during the attack. They claimed that while she was observing a fast and asked for water as her condition worsened, she was denied help and allegedly forced to consume alcohol mixed with urine. The family believes the assault was aimed at targeting her religious identity.
“No hope left in the justice system,” says victim’s family
Reacting to the bail, Roshan Khatoon’s brother-in-law, Shamsher Mansoori, expressed deep frustration and questioned the court’s decision.
Speaking to The Observer Post, he said in a mix of Hindi, “What happened, I don’t understand… we were in court. Then we heard that the magistrate had granted bail. On what basis was bail given?”
He further alleged irregularities in the process, saying, “We were told something was fixed in court. Even though there are already cases registered against him, bail has still been granted.”
Expressing disappointment, he added, “We don’t see any hope in the law anymore. First bail was rejected, then suddenly it was granted. If this is how things work, what justice can common people expect?”
He also claimed that celebrations broke out after the accused was released. “They are bursting crackers and celebrating on social media,” he said.

After Maganoo Singh was released on bail, social media posts showed supporters celebrating his release, with Singh even sharing videos and images online.
According to family members, the accused’s supporters gathered and celebrated his release in his locality, further deepening the victim’s family’s grief.
The incident that led to Roshan Khatoon’s death
Roshan Khatoon, a resident of Amhi village in Ghoghardiha block of Madhubani district, had gone to the home of the village head, Kumari Devi, to resolve a local dispute.
Her family alleges that the situation escalated when she was attacked by a group of villagers, including the mukhiya’s son. She sustained serious injuries in the assault.
She was first taken for treatment locally and later shifted to Patna Medical College and Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on March 1.
Allegations of police delay and cover-up
The victim’s family has also accused the police of failing to act promptly and alleged that there were delays in providing medical assistance.
They claim that timely intervention could have saved Roshan Khatoon’s life and have demanded a fair investigation into the role of those involved.
