BJP MLA from Bihar’s Bihpur constituency, Engineer Shailendra, has stirred up controversy with his recent comments suggesting that Muslims should implement population control.

Shailendra stated that he would prefer to lose an election than accept the votes of Muslims.

“Who creates disorder across the country? Who opposes those who vote for Sanatan Dharma? Who are the terrorists in the country? Where are temple remnants found in mosques? Who is responsible for all these activities? It is Muslims who do this, and who supports Muslims? It is the RJD. We don’t need Muslim votes because Muslims are harmful to the nation. Why should we take their votes? Today, who is killing soldiers on the border? Is it Hindus from Pakistan, or is it Muslims?” he said.

On Sunday, his remarks drew widespread criticism from opposition parties, who accused the MLA of trying to fuel communal tensions and polarize voters ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.

Shailendra also claimed that while Hindus tend to have fewer children, Muslims have larger families, advising them to implement population control measures. He urged Hindus to ‘become Hindus’ and said that if they don’t, it will be unfortunate for them. He also alleged that ‘we have one child, and they have 20 children.’

“It is not the RJD, but the ‘Miya.’ No matter who the candidate is, they are a ‘Miya.'”

The BJP MLA defended his position by stating that despite the infrastructure improvements his party had brought to the constituency, such as transformers and roads, Muslims had never voted for him. He added that the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) was the only party receiving Muslim support.

Shailendra expressed confidence that the BJP-led NDA would form the next government in Bihar in 2025, with the backing of OBC and Hindu communities.
