The Delhi Police has registered an FIR against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi following a complaint by BJP MPs over an alleged scuffle during a protest in Parliament. While Section 109 (abetment to murder) has been removed, the FIR retains other charges, including Sections 115, 117, 125, 131, and 351 of the Indian Penal Code.
The BJP’s complaint accused Rahul Gandhi of incitement and assault, alleging that two BJP MPs, Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, suffered injuries during the altercation. Both leaders were hospitalized, with Sarangi receiving stitches for heavy bleeding and Rajput being treated for dizziness and high blood pressure.
The scuffle took place amidst heated protests in Parliament on Thursday. BJP MPs were demonstrating against Congress for “insulting” BR Ambedkar, while the INDIA bloc, led by Rahul Gandhi, demanded Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation over his remarks on Ambedkar.
BJP MP Anurag Thakur alleged, “The Gandhi family has historically disrespected Ambedkar, and today’s incident reflects the same arrogance.”
The Congress party has dismissed the allegations, calling them baseless and politically motivated. A senior Congress leader stated, “This is a blatant misuse of power to divert attention from the BJP’s failures and controversial remarks made by Amit Shah.”
