A complaint has been filed against yoga guru Baba Ramdev in a court in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur over his recent remarks about Muslims and the concept of a “Hindu Rashtra.”

The complaint was filed by Tamanna Hashmi, national president of the Haq-e-Hindustan Morcha, who alleged that Ramdev’s statements hurt religious sentiments and could promote communal disharmony.

The court has admitted the complaint and fixed July 21 as the next date of hearing.

Complaint Seeks Action Under BNS

In the complaint, Baba Ramdev, also known as Ramakrishna Yadav, has been accused of making remarks that allegedly offended the religious sentiments of Muslims and could incite communal tensions.

The complainant has sought action under Sections 299 and 302 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The complaint was filed under Section 212 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Tamanna Hashmi alleged that the statements, made during a televised address on the night of July 13, had the potential to create religious unrest in society.

What Baba Ramdev Said

While addressing a gathering, Baba Ramdev referred to Deoband and said, “We have a Deoband near Haridwar. I was invited there in 2009. I told them that our religions may be different, but our ancestors are the same.”

Speaking about the idea of a Hindu Rashtra, he added, “No one needs to fear the concept of Hindu Rashtra. We all had Sanatani Hindu Aryan-Vedic ancestors. It is written before us quite clearly.”

Ramdev also said, “Some people ask that if a Hindu nation is formed, where will Muslims go? Just embrace your ancestors’ traditions. You shave or get circumcised, wear any dress you like, but keep your character like your ancestors. There’s no threat to Muslims or Christians in Hindustan.”

Complainant Alleges Remarks Hurt Religious Sentiments

Tamanna Hashmi alleged that the statements had hurt the religious sentiments of the Muslim community and raised the possibility of provoking communal tensions.

The court has taken cognisance of the complaint and will hear the matter on July 21.
