Controversy Erupts Over Palestine Lecture at O P Jindal Global University in Haryana

A recent lecture on the Israel-Palestine conflict at O P Jindal Global University in Haryana’s Sonepat has stirred up a controversy, with some BJP leaders sharing video clips from the event, alleging it was in support of the Hamas. The lecture, titled “History and Politics of the Palestinian present,” was organized at the private university.

A spokesperson for O P Jindal Global University denied the allegations, stating that “the videos have been taken out of context.”

The controversy gained momentum when Mumbai BJP spokesperson Suresh Nakhua posted video clips from the lecture on social media platform ‘X’, formerly Twitter. Nakhua claimed, “An event in support of Hamas, a terrorist organization, was organized at O P Jindal Global University.”

“During this event, concerns were raised regarding the potential targeting of Hindu culture, Hinduism, Hindutva, RSS, BJP & Indian Army which reportedly caused discomfort among some students and faculties,” he said.

“The academic sphere, which is intended to serve as a secure environment, is sometimes utilised to promote cultural Marxist ideologies and anti Hindu narratives with the aim of destabilising Bharat and negatively influencing the youth,” he added.

Abhivav Prakash, the national vice president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), also expressed his disapproval on ‘X’, saying, “Shameful event at the O P Jindal University glorifying Hamas and suicide attacks while slandering Hindus and India.”
