‘Cops Provoked My Brother to Kill’: Nanded Woman Who ‘Married’ Dead Boyfriend After Family Murdered Him Over Caste Differences

A 21-year-old woman from Maharashtra’s Nanded district has made a shocking allegation after “marrying” the corpse of her murdered boyfriend. Aanchal Mamidwar has accused two police officials of encouraging her brother to kill 20-year-old Saksham Tate, whom she had been in a relationship with for three years.

Aanchal told reporters that on the day Saksham was killed, her brother Himesh took her to the Itwara police station to file a complaint against him. She said she refused, but claimed the officials present supported her brother’s anger and allegedly told him to deal with Saksham violently. “I only demanded that my father and brothers be punished the same way Saksham died. Now I have married him and will stay with his family,” she said.

Saksham was shot and attacked with a tile on November 28, reportedly over caste differences. Police have arrested Aanchal’s father Gajanan Mamidwar, her brother Sahil, and Himesh for the murder.

Nanded Superintendent of Police Abinash Kumar said an Additional SP-rank officer will investigate the accusations against the police. “She did not raise this earlier, but her statement has now been recorded,” he said.

Aanchal has demanded the death penalty for those responsible. Police said both Saksham and Himesh had previous run-ins with law enforcement. Six people have been charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and the Arms Act. The arrested men have been remanded to police custody for three days.
