Three CPI(M) Activists Arrested for Crude Bomb Attack on SDPI Worker’s House in Kannur

Police have arrested three activists of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] in connection with a crude bomb-attack on the residence of a Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) worker in Muzhappilangad, Kerala.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, caused significant property damage but did not result in any injuries.

The incident took place at around 6:15 a.m. at the house of Pilacheri Siraj, an SDPI activist. A crude bomb was hurled at his residence, damaging parts of the house and a scooter parked in the yard. Siraj and his family members were inside at the time, but they escaped unharmed.

Earlier, a person named Prajeesh had threatened to kill Siraj and throw his child into a well. A complaint was filed with the Edakkad police in this incident.

Following an investigation, the police arrested three suspects—Prajeesh (30), Dileep (35), and Shinto—who were later produced before the Thalassery court and remanded in custody. Authorities have not yet disclosed the motive behind the attack, but the incident has heightened tensions between political rivals in the region.

Kannur, known for its history of political clashes between CPI(M), SDPI, and other factions, has witnessed similar incidents in the past. The SDPI, the political wing of the Popular Front of India (PFI), has been at odds with the CPI(M) in Kerala, particularly over ideological differences and grassroots political influence.

Police are continuing their probe, with additional security measures being considered in the area to prevent further violence.
