A Dalit farmer in Badaun district was allegedly beaten up and abused with casteist slurs after he complained about cattle grazing in his field.

The incident took place in Gudhana village, where Dwarika Prasad, son of Kallu Singh, had cultivated millet. He alleged that cows belonging to three villagers, Prashant, son of Satyabhan, and Saksham and Jai, sons of Gana Dayanand, regularly entered his field and damaged his standing crops.

On September 8, when the cows once again grazed on his crops, Prasad recorded a video of the incident, caught one of the cows, and went to confront the owners. He claimed that instead of addressing his complaint, the accused hurled caste-based abuses and thrashed him.

Following his complaint, police registered a case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against the three accused.

Station Officer Udayveer Singh confirmed the development, stating, “A case of Dalit oppression has been registered on the victim’s complaint. Further action will be taken as per law.”
