In Rajasthan’s Churu district, a group of Dalit men was allegedly assaulted while trying to enter a temple during a religious procession, police said on Monday. The incident took place on Sunday in Sadasar village, prompting protests outside the local police station the following day.

According to the FIR filed by Kanaram Meghwal, the assault occurred during a ‘shobhayatra’ (procession) held after a ‘Bhagwat Katha’ recital. As Meghwal and a few others tried to enter the temple for ‘darshan,’ they were reportedly stopped by villagers, including Surdas Swami, Shankarlal, Himmat Kumar, and Anil. Meghwal alleged that the group was prevented from entering the shrine because they were Dalits and were physically assaulted.

DSP Satyanarayan Godara said the confrontation happened amid a rush at the temple entrance. “They were asked to wait, and an argument broke out between the two groups,” he explained. A case has been registered against the four accused, who are currently absconding, and police are conducting a search to trace them.
