A Dalit professor at Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, was allegedly beaten up by members of a right-wing group on Wednesday. Dr. Ch Changaiah, a professor and dean in the Department of Electrical Engineering, was attacked by a group of men believed to be associated with Bajrang Dal.

According to a India Today report, the incident occurred inside the university campus when a group of individuals approached Dr. Changaiah and started an argument with him. Known for his advocacy on social justice and Dalit rights, the disagreement escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in the professor being thrashed.

The police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident, with efforts underway to apprehend the suspects involved in the attack.

This incident marks the second attack on a member of the Dalit community in the past week.

On November 27, in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district, 27-year-old Narad Jatav, a Dalit man, was allegedly beaten to death by a local sarpanch and his family members for using a common handpump to collect water in Indragarh village. The police reported that Jatav succumbed to injuries inflicted by the sarpanch, Padma Singh Dhakad, and his family using sticks and rubber pipes.
