Eleven Bangladeshi nationals and three touts from India were arrested on Saturday at Agartala Railway Station in Tripura attempting to enter India, officials said.
Eleven individuals were arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) including seven who come from the Khagrachari district and four women from the Narail district. Two of the touts are from Tripura and one hails from Assam. Police officials confirmed that all of them were attempting to travel to Ahmedabad and Chennai by changing multiple trains. Officials confirmed that the three Indians were helping the Bangladeshis to enter India.
Speaking to the media, an official stated, “A Bangladeshi from the group confessed that they wanted to go to Ahmedabad by train looking for jobs.”
Police have also seized smartphones, money and several documents.
In a similar crackdown, the Border Security Force (BSF) thwarted three Bangladeshis from Tripura’s Unakoti district as they attempted to cross the Indo-Bangla International border.
In the past three months, Police officials have caught many individuals attempting to illegally enter the country amid major political developments and unrest in Bangladesh. More than 355 Bangladeshi and 41 Rohingyas were held by GRP and BSF.
To prevent further illegal infiltrations, the BSF has brought a multi-pronged strategy with increased vigilance along the India-Bangladesh border and complete coordination with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)
