Explosions Rock Karachi and Lahore Amid Heightened Tensions Following India’s Operation Sindoor: Reports

A fresh explosion was reported in Karachi’s Sharafi Goth area on Thursday evening, just hours after three earlier blasts shook Lahore’s Walton region, triggering panic near a military zone.

According to reports, police in Karachi recovered metallic debris from the site. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, and authorities have not confirmed the type of device or whether there were any casualties.

Earlier in the day, loud blasts in Gopal Nagar and Naseerabad — residential areas near Walton Airport in Lahore — startled residents. A Reuters correspondent and Geo TV confirmed that air raid sirens blared, and locals were seen fleeing homes in fear.

“It felt like the ground shook,” Mohammad Saeed, a resident of Naseerabad told local media. “People were screaming and running outside.”

The origin of the blasts remains unclear, but flight operations in Karachi, Lahore, and Sialkot were temporarily suspended. Officials have not yet clarified whether the halt was linked directly to the explosions or a broader national security response.

These incidents come just a day after India launched Operation Sindoor, a “targeted military campaign hitting nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).”

The strikes were in retaliation for the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which left 26 civilians dead, most of them from the Hindu community.

In a statement, India’s Ministry of External Affairs described the operation as:

“Measured and non-escalatory… aimed at neutralizing terror infrastructure with precision, avoiding civilian or military casualties.”

The Indian government said that the operation was a “pre-emptive and deterrent measure” to prevent future attacks.
