A man was arrested in Tripura after he allegedly killed his two minor children by attacking them with a piece of firewood at a Bru Settlement Camp in the Gandacherra subdivision on Saturday morning.
The incident took place in Ultachhara ADC Village, a remote area in Dhalai district.
Accused allegedly returned home drunk
According to preliminary police information, the accused, identified as Lalchuanama Bru, allegedly came home in an intoxicated state and began assaulting his wife, Ramtaru Bru.
Police said the woman managed to escape from the house along with one of their children.
However, their two other children — a four-year-old son and a 12-year-old daughter — were left inside the house.
Children attacked with firewood
Officials said the accused allegedly attacked the two children with a wooden log used as firewood. Both children died on the spot due to the injuries.
The brutal incident has shocked the local community in the Bru settlement area.
Police launch investigation
Following the incident, police reached the spot, arrested the accused, and started an investigation.
The bodies of the two children have been shifted to the Gandacherra Sub-Divisional Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
Police said further investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events and motive behind the killings.
