A fire broke out at a children’s hospital in east Delhi’s Vivek Vihar, resulting in the deaths of seven newborns, officials reported on Sunday.

The blaze occurred at the children’s hospital in Shahdara on Saturday night. The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) chief, Atul Garg, stated that twelve newborns were rescued from the facility, but unfortunately, seven did not survive. Five babies are currently receiving treatment at another hospital.

A senior police officer said that the fire erupted at the Baby Care New Born Hospital and its adjacent building around 11:30 pm on Saturday. The rescued infants were transferred to another hospital with the assistance of local residents.

While six babies were declared dead upon arrival at the hospital, one succumbed to injuries during treatment. The bodies have been taken to GTB Hospital for postmortem examinations.

The Delhi Police have initiated an investigation into the incident, and further action is being taken to determine the cause of the fire.
