Over the past 24 hours, Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 146 Palestinians in Gaza and injured hundreds more, according to local health authorities. The attacks mark one of the deadliest phases since a truce collapsed in March, with Israel preparing for a possible ground offensive.

Marwan Al-Sultan, director of the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza, described the situation inside the hospital as “catastrophic,” reporting 58 deaths received since midnight, with many victims still trapped under rubble.

The Gaza health system is on the brink of collapse after months of bombardment and a tightened blockade that has restricted medical supplies and humanitarian aid. The United Nations warns of an impending famine, with UN aid chief Tom Fletcher calling on the Security Council to act to “prevent genocide.”

Despite international pressure, including from U.S. President Donald Trump during his recent Middle East visit, no ceasefire has been agreed upon. Plans are underway to relocate Gaza’s population, with reports that the Trump administration is considering moving up to one million Palestinians to Libya, a proposal strongly rejected by Palestinians and their leaders.

Israel’s military stated it was conducting extensive strikes and mobilizing troops to expand operations in Gaza as part of “Operation Gideon’s Wagons,” which aims to defeat Hamas and recover Israeli hostages taken during the October 7, 2023 attack on Israeli communities.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is pursuing an expanded offensive that could involve seizing the entire Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, Israeli forces have ordered residents in northern Gaza to move south amid tank advances toward southern towns.

Gaza health authorities report over 53,000 deaths in the conflict so far, with nearly two million residents displaced from their homes.
