Defending Sambhal Police officer’s controversial remarks on Muslims, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, on Saturday, speaking at a conclave, said that while Boli comes once in a year, Friday prayers are held every week.

Calling the Sambal officer a ‘Pehelwan’ (wrestler), he said that his remarks were accurate, and he only spoke ‘the truth’ although they might have hurt a few people. He suggested that Holi is more important since it happens only once a year.

The officer Chaudhy, while speaking to the media, had said, “If Muslims want to step out, they shouldn’t object if colours are thrown at them or stay at home.”

Further justifying the Friday prayers being postponed, he appreciated the logic used by the officer. He said, “The officer’s remarks were expressed with love that Holi comes once a year while the Friday prayers happen 52 times.”

Yogi then argued and said, “The namaz can be deferred. It’s not obligatory that it has to happen every time. If anyone wishes to pray, pray at home.”

Muslim scholar Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi notified Muslims that the Friday prayers will be extended. On March 14, the prayers are set to be delayed by an hour.

Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party has accused the officer of acting like an agent of the BJP.
