‘Hindus All Over the World Belong to India’: BJP Leader Swapan Dasgupta Advocates for Welcoming Bangladeshi Hindus

BJP WEST BENGAL LEADER DASGUPTA

BJP leader Swapan Dasgupta on Wednesday called for India to send a clear message to Hindus in Bangladesh, assuring them that they are always welcome in the country. Dasgupta, a former member of Parliament, emphasized that Hindus, regardless of where they live, have a connection to India.

“I personally believe that we will have to somehow send the signal to the Hindus of Bangladesh that they are always welcome here. We will have to recognize that the Bangladeshi Hindus are our people. Wherever they stay, the Hindus all over the world, belong to India,” Dasgupta said.

His remarks were made during an event organized by the Centre for Democracy, Pluralism and Human Rights (CDPHR), a non-governmental organization that released a report on the human rights situation in Bangladesh. The report highlights the ongoing political unrest in the country, which has been marked by months of protests over a job-quota issue.

The CDPHR report documents and analyzes “attacks against minorities in Bangladesh”, noting the chaos that erupted after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was forced to flee. The report was released in the presence of political analysts and human rights advocates who expressed concern over the safety and security of minority communities in Bangladesh.
