An incident came into light from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, where a mentally disturbed woman was raped. After the assault, she was seen roaming the streets semi-naked, but no one made the effort to cover her. The police arrested the accused late Tuesday night, based on local CCTV footage.
The incident occurred on Monday night between 2:30 am and 3 am in the Neelkanth Colony area of the Sadar Bazaar police station.
ADCP Zone-1 Alok Sharma stated that on Monday night, a 40-year-old mentally disturbed woman was wandering in the Neelkanth Colony. Seeing her alone, 20 year old Sonu alias Sahil Soni, a resident of nearby area Janata Colony, took the women with him and raped her.
“The accused was arrested on Tuesday. He committed the crime upon finding her alone. The police conducted a medical examination of the woman. With the help of CCTV, the accused was caught, and he has confessed to the crime during interrogation. A case has been filed under the sections of rape”, said Sharma
After the assault, the woman wandered through the colony in a semi-naked state. She was unable to respond to police questions. The police conducted her medical examination, which confirmed the rape. On the other hand, the accused Sonu Soni also confessed to the crime. The police presented the accused in court on Wednesday, where he was sent to jail.
The accused had taken the woman to an empty stall. There are houses of police personnel near the crime scene, and a watchman’s family also lives near the area. The woman walked about half a kilometer without clothes whereas the locals claimed they saw nothing.
Around 4 am, the sanitation workers informed the police about the woman. During the search, she was found sitting near a garden around 4:30 am. She was then clothed and questioned, but she couldn’t provide any information. She was taken to the hospital for a medical examination, where the doctor confirmed the rape. The incident was captured on a CCTV camera.
Local residents say that the garden stays in a neglected state, with piles of garbage and full of addicts. People only became aware of the incident after the police arrived.
The victim has been admitted to Maharaja Yashwantrao (MY) Hospital, and the police are trying to gather information about her family. The woman is around 40 years old, and her mental condition is not stable, wherein she’s unable to tell her name. However, local residents mentioned that they had seen her several times wandering around the colony and nearby areas.
