The Delhi Police Special Cell and the Jharkhand Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) have arrested a man suspected of having links with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), officials said on Tuesday.

The accused has been identified as Ashar Danish, originally from Petarwar block in Bokaro district. He was picked up from Tabarak Lodge in Islamnagar, Ranchi, under the Lower Bazaar police station area.

According to officials, Danish had been under the radar of the Delhi Police Special Cell for a long time in connection with an older case registered in Delhi. Acting on a specific tip-off, a joint team of Ranchi Police, Jharkhand ATS, and the Special Cell raided the lodge and arrested him.

During the operation, several electronic devices were seized, which are now being analysed for evidence.

Security agencies also carried out a follow-up raid in Palamu district, detaining another person for questioning to check whether he had links to Danish’s alleged network.

A senior police officer said Danish is being interrogated to gather more details about his contacts and the extent of his operations. “The information could help us understand ISIS’s activities and possible plans in the region,” the officer said.

Over the past few years, multiple suspects with alleged ISIS connections have been arrested in different districts of Jharkhand, and investigators believe Danish’s arrest may provide crucial leads.
