Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, expressed sorrow over the recent attack in the Gagangeer area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, which resulted in the deaths of six construction workers and a doctor. He condemned the attack, calling it “outrageous.”

In his statement, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said, “Islam, like all religions, deplores such inhuman behavior. Every life is precious, and to be lost in this manner is extremely painful. This is another grim reminder of the unending cycle of violence and uncertainty we are suffering for decades.” He also offered prayers for the recovery of the injured and patience for the families of those who lost their lives.

In response to the attack, a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrived at the scene on Monday morning to begin their investigation. An official stated, “The NIA will investigate all possible angles that led to this attack.”

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also condemned the violent act during a speech at the Police Commemoration Day event in Srinagar. He directed the Jammu and Kashmir police to intensify efforts to identify and punish those responsible for the attack. “The loss of innocent lives is intolerable,” he stated. He called for coordination among the police, army, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to ensure there is “no laxity in the fight against terrorism”.

Sinha further highlighted the ongoing “threat of terrorism” in the region, linking it to neighbouring countries. “The threat continues to persist, and we must remain vigilant,” he said.
