Jailed MP Engineer Sheikh Abdul Rashid.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed concern over the health of jailed Member of Parliament, Engineer Rashid, who is currently on a hunger strike at Tihar Jail in Delhi.

Omar Abdullah took to X, saying, “Very concerned to hear about Engineer Rashid having to be shifted to hospital.”

He added, “It is imperative that authorities take proper care and ensure his condition does not deteriorate while the court arrives at a considered decision on his bail plea.”

Rashid, who represents Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir, has been in Tihar Jail since 2019 on charges related to terror funding. His health has reportedly worsened as his hunger strike entered its eighth day.

According to his party spokesperson, Inam Un Nabi, Rashid has now been transferred to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi for medical treatment.

Inam Un Nabi expressed deep concern for Rashid’s well-being, saying, “Er Rashid’s health situation is deeply alarming. Despite his critical condition, his voice for justice remains unyielding.”

He called on the authorities to prioritize his medical care and ensure he receives immediate treatment.

“We appeal to the government and relevant authorities to address this issue urgently. Justice must not only be done but be seen to be done,” he added.

The situation comes after the Delhi High Court reserved its order on Rashid’s plea seeking custody parole to attend the ongoing budget session in Parliament.
