On India’s 77th Republic Day, Syed Sadatullah Husaini, President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, urged citizens to reaffirm their commitment to building a nation rooted in justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. Highlighting India’s progress over the decades, he praised achievements such as a stronger economy, advancements in science and technology, wider access to education, and the country’s emergence as a global leader in multiple sectors.

“Republic Day is also a time for sober reflection,” Husaini said. “Rising social polarisation, shrinking spaces for dissent, declining press freedom, growing economic inequality, and pressures on our constitutional institutions should concern every citizen who cares for India’s future.”

He said, “The strength of our Republic lies not in majorities or power, but in protecting the rights, dignity, and equal citizenship of all.” Husaini called on people to renew their commitment to the Constitution, stressing justice, freedom, and the celebration of diversity.

“We must work towards an India where peace and communal harmony prevail, where development is inclusive, and where democracy guarantees dignity, opportunity, and security for every citizen,” he added.
