Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Chief Syed Sadatullah Husaini Condemns Killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Calls It Violation of International Law

Syed Sadatullah Husaini of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind condemns the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei as a violation of international law.

Syed Sadatullah Husaini, President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, expressed sorrow over the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a joint United States and Israeli airstrike on Tehran. He also strongly condemned the assassination, calling it a flagrant violation of international law.

Speaking to the media, Husaini said, “We express deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences on the passing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. We stand in solidarity with the people of Iran during their period of national mourning and pray for patience and strength for the bereaved family members, including his daughter and other relatives who were also martyred.”

He described Khamenei as a towering figure in the Muslim world whose leadership shaped Iran’s political and ideological direction for over three decades. “Since assuming the position of Supreme Leader in 1989 after the death of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, he stood as a symbol of steadfastness, independence, and resistance to foreign domination. His life reflected a deep commitment to safeguarding the sovereignty of his nation and upholding the principles of the Islamic Revolution of Iran. His martyrdom in the holy month of Ramadan has deeply saddened millions across the Muslim world,” Husaini added.

Condemnation of the Airstrike

Husaini strongly denounced the manner in which Khamenei was killed. “His assassination constitutes a blatant assault on state sovereignty and a deliberate violation of the UN Charter and international law. The US and Israel must be held fully accountable before the international community. Fabricating pretexts to justify the cold-blooded murder of a sitting head of state is not only unlawful but reflects the rogue nature of such nations. Countries that disregard international norms and human dignity must be isolated and punished,” he said.

He called on the international community to halt further aggression against Iran and to ensure accountability. “Those responsible for this unprovoked attack must answer before the International Court of Justice. Aggression of this magnitude cannot be normalized or ignored. Lasting peace and stability can only be achieved by respecting the sovereignty of nations and ensuring justice in international relations,” Husaini added.

Background of the Attack

Ayatollah Khamenei, who led Iran since 1989, was killed in a major strike targeting his Tehran compound. Following the attack, US President Donald Trump called on Iranians to rise against their leadership, marking a sharp escalation in tensions across the Middle East.

Husaini’s statement echoes concerns raised by opposition parties in India, including Congress, which condemned the strikes as dangerous and called for diplomacy, civilian protection, and measures to ensure the safety of Indian citizens in the region.

The killing of Ayatollah Khamenei has sparked global condemnation, mourning, and protests across several countries, including India.
