The District Magistrate of Jammu, Rakesh Minhas, has issued an order restricting the transportation of bovine animals from Jammu district to other districts without prior approval from the district administration. Officials said the move has been taken under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
The order applies to cattle including cows, buffaloes, bulls, oxen and calves. Under the new directive, no bovine animal can be moved out of Jammu district unless permission is obtained from either the District Magistrate or the Additional District Magistrate.
Order valid for two months or until further notice
According to officials, the restriction will remain in force for two months from the date it was issued, or until further orders are passed—whichever comes earlier.
Authorities said the decision has been taken using statutory powers available to the District Magistrate in the interest of regulation and oversight of animal movement in the district.
Legal action for violations
The administration has also warned that any violation of the order will invite punitive action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Officials added that strict monitoring will be carried out to ensure compliance with the directive, and movement of bovine animals will be allowed only through proper authorization.
