Jamshedpur Muslim Woman Missing for 20 Days, Family Alleges Abduction and Forced Conversion

A 23- to 24-year-old Muslim woman has been missing for around 20 days in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, with her family alleging abduction, intimidation and a possible attempt at forced religious conversion and marriage.

According to her family, the woman completed her B.Tech degree in 2025 from an engineering college in Chaibasa and was working in the Dimna area of Jamshedpur.

The family has alleged that a man identified as Aditya Kumar Tiwari, along with his family members, took her to an unknown location by allegedly misleading and coercing her. These allegations have not been independently verified.

Relatives said they lost contact with the woman after her mobile phone was switched off. They have expressed concern over her whereabouts, safety and current physical and mental condition.

The family has alleged that she was being threatened, harassed and pressured into religious conversion and marriage. They said they had no direct communication with her to establish whether she was safe or whether any decision regarding marriage had been made with her consent.

Family Alleges Police Refused to Register Complaint

According to the family, they approached Sakchi police station after failing to locate the woman but alleged that the police initially refused to register their complaint.

A social worker who raised the matter said the family had also submitted a petition to the district administration seeking urgent intervention.

The social worker claimed that police had referred to an application for marriage allegedly submitted by the parties. However, the social worker questioned whether the woman’s consent had been independently established, saying there had been no direct contact with her to verify the circumstances.

The existence of a marriage application, as described by the social worker, does not by itself establish the woman’s consent or the allegations made by the family.

Social Worker Issues Three-Day Ultimatum

Demanding immediate action, the social worker called on the district administration to trace the woman within three days and ensure that she is safely reunited with her family.

“If the girl is not traced within three days, if she is not brought back to her family members alive or as a dead body, then we will turn up in massive numbers here to stage a complete gherao,” the social worker said.

The social worker said the matter had caused concern within the community and urged authorities to treat the case as urgent.

The family has appealed to Jamshedpur Police and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to intervene, ensure the woman’s safe recovery and establish her current whereabouts and condition.
